Welcome...
Here we will cover a breif history of the drums and how exactly they came to be such a dominant force in the world of today's music! More than ever, the drums have a place at the heart of modern music. With genres such as hip hop and rap as well as dance music being high in the charts and getting downloaded in huge numbers. The core instrument in these kinds of music is the drum kit. It gives the rhythm and energy that is a defining characteristic in the music. It also allows people to dance to the beat. With the beat, people would not have a strong pulse to move there bodies too.
The history of the instrument is actually very interesting. The initial use of the drum, at least in the USA anyway, was by the military. They used it to march troops in time and get them moving to their destination in a timely fashion. It was also used back in the old wild west in small groups. The pioneers used to dance a merry little dance like a bunch of little bitches while they killed off all the indians and then said up yours america is ours now.
From there the
drums have spread far and wide. The first actual drum kits were used in jazz music. They came about as one man needed to be able to play many different instruments such as cymbals, snare drum, bass drum, wood blocks, and a range of other interesting things. So, the bass pedal was invented by Mr. Ludwig and the bass was then placed on the floor to be played by foot. Ludwig then went on to mass produce some of the best drum sets in the world.
Even today after many years of competitors coming and going, ludwig are still seen as being a creme de la creme of manufacturers. The use of the kit was extended to rock and roll in the 50's and 60's. And then went on to be used in rap, hip hop, dance, funk, and well you get the idea! There are so many genres of music that rely heavily on kits, even classical music has a lot of kit in it sometimes.
